I’m not a beauty guru, but I’ll admit I get asked a lot about how I style my hair, what my workout routine is, and so on. The reality is that I believe true beauty comes from the inside and radiates outward, and a great indicator of your health is your skin.
I’ll admit though, for a long time I wasn’t doing everything I could to make sure my skin was healthy. It’s hard I think, as someone who's never been familiar with topical regimens, to figure out which products you need to use on your face. However, I’ve discovered it's important to keep things simple. The five basic necessities every person needs to take care of their skin are a serum, moisturizer, skin cream, eye cream, and an anti-wrinkle mask.
Something that was a real pain point in my life was getting enough sleep at night. I’m sure many of you also feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to accomplish everything you want to. Anyway, I found that a vitamin C serum was the key to looking like I’ve gotten a full 8 hours of sleep. It brightens my skin tone and antioxidants to protect from sun damage, which is great because Quattro and I love spending time in the sun.
Moisturizer & Cream
These two products sound similar, but there’s actually a huge difference. Moisturizer does what it says--moisturizes your skin. It’s lightweight, which is why most people use it in the morning. Cream is used at night to prevent moisture loss, and is usually a thicker consistency. I’ve found using both has made my skin look and feel healthier, and are especially useful when I travel to places with dry heat or freezing cold.
While I’m at it, I should distinguish that eye cream is wayyyyy different than skin cream. I learned this the hard way, but they really are different. It’s kind of like trying to work out in lifestyle shoes. Sure, you can still run a few miles but they’re just not built to give the right kind of support. The skin around your eyes is a lot thinner and more sensitive than other places on your face. You’ll need something less greasy than what you use on your face to take care of the windows to your soul!
Anti-Wrinkle Sleep Mask
Like in fitness, the key is to maintain. The parallel with that and skincare is the final piece to the puzzle, which is an anti-wrinkle sleep formula. When you sleep, your body recovers. This is the same for muscles in your body as it is the skin on your face. The one I use hydrates and firms, which I like because I don’t have to think about using multiple products for the same benefits.
Hopefully this provides some insight if you’re new to navigating the skin care game. If you want to try out these products without making a huge commitment, I’ve developed a pack of my favorite products here:
